A well-fitting harness
Putting on a safety harness may seem straightforward – and many people get it right – but there are several important points to consider. A poorly fitting harness does not provide adequate protection in the event of a fall.
Loose harnesses are unsafe and increase the risk of injury. Harnesses should fit snugly, but if they are too tight, they can restrict circulation, especially in the legs. Twisted straps can also cause injury instead of providing protection. A back plate that sits too low may feel secure but offers less support and can lead to serious lower back injuries in the event of a fall.
The way to ensure the correct fit is to consult the supplier’s size chart. A properly fitting harness not only improves safety but is also more comfortable, allowing the user to stay focused for longer without feeling restricted.
Handle your harness with care
A fall arrest harness is made of fabric. While this makes it lightweight and comfortable to wear, it also makes it vulnerable. Keep your fall arrest harness away from sharp objects, heat sources and corrosive chemicals such as turpentine. To clean your harness, it’s best to use a damp cloth.
Annual inspection of your fall protection
All Tractel fall arrest harnesses available in our webshop have an unlimited service life. However, if you have any doubts about the safety of your equipment – or if a fall has occurred – the fall arrest harness should be inspected by a qualified professional. Have your fall protection checked at least once a year by a competent person. This ensures compliance with regulations and demonstrates a genuine commitment to safety.
