Davit crane vs. jib crane
Davit crane vs. jib crane
The davit crane and jib crane are often used interchangeably. This is probably because they have some similar characteristics and applications. A davit crane and a slewing crane are both usually made of steel and are used for hoisting in numerous applications. However, that is where the similarities end. However, what are the differences between a davit crane and a jib crane? Moreover, it is also useful to know what advantages are associated with a davit crane.
Davit crane vs. jib crane: What is the difference?
The davit crane:
Mounting a davit crane requires only 15 cm of reinforced concrete or other suitable material. To ensure safe installation, you can always call on SKP's experience. In addition to checking the substrate, we will also advise you which fixing bolts are suitable for installation.
In addition to easy installation, davit cranes are much more mobile than a jib crane in almost all situations. The low weight of Thern's davit cranes makes them easy to carry and move. Thus, one can use one davit crane on several pre-installed pedestals. This makes it efficient and economical work.
The Thern davit cranes are additionally equipped with a hand winch. The use of hand winches eliminates the need to use power supplies. This is an advantage not to be underestimated in places where no power supply is available or may be used.
There is also greater flexibility with a davit crane because of the telescopic boom with adjustable boom angle. Thus, a davit crane takes up less space when not in use or during transport.
Besides the fact that davit cranes are multi-purpose, everything can be done by one person. Both transport, installation and operation can always be performed by one person.
An existing davit crane can also be expanded with numerous accessories. If you wish to install a wall mount instead of a pedestal, this is possible. The existing crane can simply be used in either mounting method. Providing the winch with a different cable length is also among the possibilities.
The jib crane:
Although the word "jib crane" is used to describe various cranes, it does have some distinguishing characteristics: Jib cranes are more expensive and less versatile than davit cranes.
A jib crane usually requires a foundation that is both poured and at least 30cm deep. This increases the cost compared to a standard installation of davit cranes.
Because a jib crane usually has a fixed location and boom, it loses flexibility. In addition, jib cranes mainly use an electric chain hoist. Both the operation of this chain hoist and the rotation of the jib cranes require a power supply in most cases.
For projects that require flexibility, the choice of a Thern davit crane is the most obvious one. One can even easily disassemble the davit crane when the project is finalized and use it on the next project.
When it comes to choosing between a davit crane and a jib crane, the functionality and flexibility of a davit crane often beats the cost and flexibility of a jib crane.
